The Murfreesboro Technology Council (MTC) of Middle Tennessee and Rachel Albertson, Inforule Social Media, recently donated five Chromebook laptops to Jonathan’s Path, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering teens in foster care and extended foster care. This generous contribution is a testament to the local residents and MTC’s commitment to bridging the digital divide for underserved communities in Rutherford County.
In today’s digital age, technology drives the future of nearly every industry. It enables instant communication, innovation, and growth across sectors. However, for many, accessing this essential tool can be daunting or out of reach. MTC has made it a mission to bridge these gaps by connecting community members with technology and facilitating digital inclusion.
For the youth at Jonathan’s Path, who often face instability and the challenges of frequent moves, having a dedicated laptop can be transformative. These young people, whose lives are marked by transitions from home to home and school to school, work hard to keep up academically. Although Jonathan’s Path provides private tutoring, the availability of personal laptops will enhance their learning experience, offering stability and flexibility in their educational journey.
Access to these devices also opens doors to crucial online resources. Beyond academics, each Chromebook provides access to mental health support, a vital resource for young people dealing with the emotional impact of their unique circumstances. By giving them these pathways, Jonathan’s Path and MTC are working together to offer a stable foundation and better opportunities for these youth.
Carrie DuRard, Executive Director of Jonathan’s Path, expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “We are so grateful to the Murfreesboro Technology Council for recognizing the needs of our youth and stepping up to be part of the solution. By donating these laptops, they’re not just providing technology; they’re showing our young people that the community sees them, values their potential, and is invested in their success.”
Jon C. Hoscheit, CTO for MTC, shared his support: “Jonathan’s Path offers a unique approach to supporting our community. The members of the MTC are proud to be able to support their mission and extend a future generation with technology to support jobs and education. If anyone is interested in learning more, MTC memberships are free to the community!”
