Empowering Financial Independence for Foster Youth in Middle Tennessee
Every young person deserves the opportunity not just to survive—but to thrive. The Financial Future Path by Jonathan’s Path is a program designed to equip young people in foster care or who have aged out (ages 13‑25) across Middle Tennessee with the knowledge, tools, and support needed to build stable, prosperous financial lives.
What is the JP: Financial Future Path?
The JP: Financial Future Path program is designed to help you build smart money habits and prepare for financial independence. With our support, you’ll open your own checking account and a JP Savings account in your name. The checking account gives you full access to your money anytime, while the savings account provides a safe place to set money aside for the future. Every dollar in these accounts belongs to you—JP is simply helping hold it securely and guide you in making wise choices. This program is a first step toward learning how to save, spend carefully, and build a strong financial future.
Why This Matters
Foster youth often face sudden transitions that leave them financially unprepared—no savings, limited understanding of budgeting, credit, or long‑term planning. Without guidance and support, the risk of housing instability, debt, or homelessness increases once they age out of the system. Jonathan’s Path seeks to fill the gap before, during, and after that transition so youth can move into adulthood with confidence.
How Do I Get Started?
Step 1: Sign Up through the Path Line
In order to determine eligibility for Jonathan’s Path support and services, please complete the Path Line form here if you haven’t done so already.
Step 2: Open a Savings Account with Jonathan’s Path
We’ll open a separate JP Savings account in your name. This account belongs to Jonathan’s Path, but the money inside is always yours. You can add money anytime you want, but you won’t have instant access to take it out. Instead, you’ll need to request a transfer, which takes up to 24-72 hours. Having a little delay before you can spend gives you time to think about whether the purchase is really important. It makes it easier to save for bigger goals—like a car, school costs, or moving into your own place—without the temptation of spending everything right away.
Step 3: If you don’t have one already, open a checking account.
If you already have a checking account, there’s no need to open a new one.
No checking account? No problem! We recommend our banking partner, Pinnacle, to open your own checking account. The setup is easy and all done online—you don’t have to go anywhere. Jonathan’s Path does not have access to this money or account.
